Did you know…?

The frog Coqui is an emblem for Puerto Rico, our 5th World Candle Congress location. This friendly frog is characterized for lacking membranes between its toes (as if it had “free fingers”) which allows it to grab and hold onto trees and other surfaces.

Its name is an onomatopoeia derived from the whistle the males create at dusk. The notes emanated from this little animals seems to say: “koo-kee.”

Unfortunately, coqui populations are declining, out of the 17 native species in the island, several of them are endangered species. Some of them haven’t been seen in a long time which makes people believe that they could have disappeared due to the contamination and deforestation.
