As a result of the ongoing global pandemic -COVID-19, ALAFAVE has a new update for our upcoming ALAFAVE NY Congress & EXPO 2020.
It is our responsibility to do what is right for our members and the candle industry. The ALAFAVE has been working tirelessly with key industry stakeholders by following global health regulations; and assessing the ongoing implications that the COVID-19 could have upon the celebration of ALAFAVE-NY-2020 Congress & EXPO.
After extensive discussion with all stakeholders, the ALAFAVE Board has made the decision to postpone the ALAFAVE-NY-2020 Congress & EXPO that was scheduled to take place on August 5th-7th at the EnVue Autograph Collection Weehawken hotel, in Weehawken, NJ, USA. We cannot at this time provide an alternative date in 2020.
The following concerns and circumstances relating to COVID-19 played a major role in this decision:
• ALAFAVE-NY-Congress & EXPO hosts over 150 international participants including exhibitors, visitors, suppliers, and staff. We are concerned for the health, and safety of all our participants. We understand these are challenging times for everyone.
• There is still great uncertainty as to whether the local government will permit mass gatherings and trade events and even if they can go ahead, what level of restrictions will apply.
• It is likely that international and domestic travel restrictions and stay at home quarantine will still be in place for some considerable time.
• Many businesses are currently in hibernation and experiencing extreme financial stress. Some others have expressed that they will not be able to exhibit or attend the event.
This decision has not been taken lightly. As a leader of the candle industry, we understand the impact of investing on events like our congress and expo by both our suppliers and candle manufacturers, and it would be irresponsible to delay this decision any further.
We remain positive that the pandemic will dissipate by year’s end and some businesses will return to certain level of normality. We are not confident that the implications will be resolved for the short term, and do not believe our industry is able to hold an event this year, 2020.
ALAFAVE has successfully negotiated with the venue hotel, we will not be penalized for canceling the 2020 event. In addition, we have emailed all registered participants the options that ALAFAVE offers regarding their paid registration fee.
We believe the Latin American Candle Industry will bounce back and expect that our 2021 ALAFAVE Congress & EXPO will be a very successful event. The team is already hard at work preparing for the 2021 event and will continue to provide updates in due course.
In the meantime, ALAFAVE will continue to look at opportunities to assist members in supporting their businesses. Please follow us on social media and our website to stay informed.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to our members and service providers who have been constantly supportive to the ALAFAVE.
In the interim, if there is anything we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact our team at any time.
